“FOR THE RESIDENTS OF WEST NIPISSING

PETITION FOR A REFERENDUM

Date of issue:  December 12,2017

Time of issue: 2:00 pm

To all residents of West Nipissing please be advised that there is a petition circulating in West Nipissing regarding the following;

  • process utilized that led to the December 5, 2017, vote for police services in West Nipissing,

  • the lack of information on the services that would be provided,

  • all information received is based on “assumptions and projection”

  • the financial impact on the resident’s property taxes for the “One time Start up cost of $ 621,654, Exit Cost of $2,518,709 and for the new facility cost estimated at $ 8,000,000, for a total of cost $ 11,140,363.” How are we going to pay for this? Again, those costs are based-on assumptions.

We have the right as a resident of West Nipissing and as a taxpayer to have answers to those unanswered questions before any decision are made that could drastically affect our taxes and our services.

The question on the petition is not on who we want as police services in our municipalité, it is about having a referendum which will provide more time to give to all residents 1) options on how the $11,140,363 debt will be financed, and the potential financial impact that it will have on our property taxes, 2) what will be the real potential impact on our services.

The question on the petition rends as follow;

“The undersigned petition West Nipissing Municipal Council to call for a referendum on the question of accepting the Ontario Provincial Police Contract Proposal thereby rescind By-law number 2017/85 passed by Council on December 5th, 2017 and pass a By-law to place the question on the 2018 Municipal Election Ballot”

More reasons for signing the petition are;

  • To give the residents of West Nipissing their voice back

  • To have answers to questions refused to us

  • To eliminate policing debate now and with newly elected council in 2018”
